Meet Katherine

Katherine has worked at StudyHouse since the fall of 2022. She started as an instructor in the Adapted Classroom before also becoming a private tutor in Launch. She is now a Lead Teacher in the Adapted Classroom and became its Director in January 2025. Katherine earned her BS in biology with a chemistry minor from The College of William and Mary and her MS in genetic counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia (now, the VCU School of Medicine).

Katherine spent almost ten years as a genetic counselor, spending most of that time coordinating research into hearing loss. Her responsibilities during this time included explaining complex genetic concepts to lay people in a clinical or research setting, guest lecturing at several universities, and serving as the supervising genetic counselor for graduate students from several universities.

She spent six years doing extensive volunteer work for Fairfax Presbyterian Preschool, including guiding them through two NAEYC re-accreditation processes and serving as chair of the Preschool Operations Committee for four years. Katherine also served as a regular classroom aide and occasional substitute teacher in the school. She then volunteered and worked for almost ten years, most of it as the Diligence Team Lead, at Together Rising, a grantmaking nonprofit.

Katherine lives in Vienna with her husband, three boys, and rescue mutt Wrigley.  Two of her boys receive(d) executive function coaching at Study House. She is a science geek, singer, photography hobbyist, and avid reader (especially of middle grade novels). Her favorite place in the world is Mount Desert Island, Maine, where she loves to hike in all seasons.
